Obituary

Richard 'œSlim' Henning, 56, of Curtice, Ohio passed away surrounded by his family on Monday, May 14, 2012 in his home. He was born in Toledo, Ohio on August 15, 1955 to John E. and Marjorie (Zinn) Henning. After graduating from Clay High School, Rick was self employed for many years as a painter and wallpaper hanger. Among his passions were coaching Special Olympics basketball, Cardinal Stritch softball and numerous years coaching local baseball and softball teams. Slim could always be counted on to open his barn to any athlete in need of an extra pitch off the mound or an extra swing in the cage. He also enjoyed his many hours of fishing with Mike Phillips, poker nights with Krames and was an avid fan of the New York Yankees. Surviving are his wife of 29 years, Sheri L.; children, Gregory R., Curtis D.; Benjamin R. and Michelle L. (Jacob) Hamilton; parents, John E. and Marjorie Henning; brothers, John (Brenda) and Robert (LeeAnn); sister, Marjorie (Larry) Mominee; mother-in-law, Pat Smothers and special aunt, Peaches. Friends may call at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Millbury Chapel, 1111 Woodville Road (east of I-280) on Thursday, May 17, 2012 from 4-8 pm and Friday from 2-8 pm. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 am on Saturday in the funeral home with interment following at Lake Township Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Lucas County Special Olympics or Hospice of Northwest Ohio. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Al-Nsour along with the nurses and staff at Mercy St. Charles Cancer Center and Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
