Richard L. Miller, 80, Of Millbury, Ohio, went to be with the Lord, Friday, October 19, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. Dick was born in Morenci, Michigan on September 20, 1938 to Ray and Margaret (Lawrence) Miller. At a young age, Dick developed an interest in athletics, especially baseball. He was raised in Toledo, Ohio and at age 12, was Toledo's Marble Champion. Dick graduated from Waite High School in 1957 where he ran cross-country, played basketball, and was a four year letterman in baseball. Following high school, he played Federation Baseball into his twenties. On May 14, 1960, he married the love of his life Lonna Bland. He worked in sales for National Cement Products of Toledo, Ohio and Lehigh - Hanson Cement Products, retiring in 2007. Mr. Miller was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite of Ohio. He served as a member of the Lake Local School Board of Education for 12 years and also served as Athletic Booster President. Dick attended Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and was a member of many civic organizations. A lifelong athlete, Dick enjoyed bowling, golf, and coaching baseball for his sons and grandson. He built & remodeled many homes in the area for family and friends and was an accomplished acrylic painter.
Dick is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lonna; sons, Michael ( Shirley) Miller and Rick Miller; grandson, Keith Miller; mother-in-law, Adeline Bland; sister-in-law, Jackie (Kevin) Winkle; nephews, Brian (Barbie) Winkle and Matthew Winkle; along with many loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Marlin "Bub" Miller and Raymond Miller.
The family will receive friends at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Millbury Chapel, 1111 Woodville Road (east of I-280) on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 from 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm where a Paragon Masonic Lodge service will be held at 7:00pm. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 25, 2018 at 11:00 am in Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 4155 Pickle Road, Oregon, where the family will greet friends beginning at 10:00 am. Private Interment: Lake Township Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the American Lung Association or Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.
