Richard M. Murphy, 78, of Millbury, passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2010, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Toledo, Ohio on September 5, 1931 to Daniel and Florence (Watts) Murphy. Richard was a veteran of the US Army during the Korean War. On June 18, 1955, he married Carolyn (Jane) Hicks and she survives. Richard was employed with LaSalle'™s and Macy'™s Department Stores as a warehouse worker for 36 years, retiring in 1984. He was a lifelong member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church where he served as church treasurer for many years. He was an avid Cleveland Indians fan and enjoyed watching his grandchildren'™s sporting events. He also enjoyed playing euchre and coached softball.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carolyn; children, Richard of Gastonia, N.C., Donald (Brenda) Murphy, Lori Turigliatto, and Kris (Scott) Lau; grandchildren, Sarah, Ashley, Kaitlyn, Matt, Mallory, Nick, Claire, and Justin; brother, Donald (Jane) Murphy; brother-in-law, Dean Kreps; nephews, Rob and John Kreps. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Helen Kreps.
Friends may call at Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Millbury Chapel, 1111 Woodville Road on Friday, July 30th from 4:00 pm until time of Memorial Service at 7:00 pm. Memorials may be directed to Martin Luther Lutheran Church or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
The family wishes to thank Hospice of Northwest Ohio, especially nurse Ginny for her care and compassion. Richard was a quiet and constant strength in all of our lives. We were blessed.
