IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard L. "Rick"
Rinestine
April 3, 1954 – October 8, 2023
Rick L Rinestine, 69, was born on April 3, 1954 to Richard "Dick" and Mary Alice (Pepin) Rinestine in East Liverpool, Ohio. The family would move to Norwalk, Ohio and later to Monclova, Ohio where Rick would graduate from Anthony Wayne High School in 1972. After high school he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he was an electrician stationed in Virginia Beach, Virginia. After his honorable discharge in 1976, he returned home to Ohio. Rick attended the University of Toledo, graduating with his Bachelor of Education in 1981. A few years later he would marry the love of his life and tandem bike partner, Betty (Krasula) on May 21, 1983. Rick touched so many people's lives, especially young people. He coached swimming with the Greater Toledo Y, Pemberville summer swim team and Perrysburg High School. Rick was the director of Camp Courageous for 15 years and then went on to teach at Holloway Elementary, Springfield Schools before retiring in May 2022. Rick loved the outdoors in all seasons and shared that passion with Betty. Rick's love for biking started at the age of 5 when he received his first bike, which was a hand me down from his sister. In high school his parents took him along to Millers Bike Shop to get a new bike for his sister, unknowingly Rick was also presented with his own bike. His dad told him he had to ride it home from Maumee to Monclova. Rick and Betty both initially rode their own single bikes, but Rick was constantly looking behind to see where Betty was. This led them to purchase a tandem bike. Rick enjoyed working on building and rebuilding bikes, especially their tandem, which they have owned for over 30 years. Their passion for biking led them to France, Switzerland, Germany, Austria and numerous states.
Rick also had many other passions, from camping, hiking, fly fishing, walking his pups and traveling. Their most recent trips being Alaska and northern Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law, Bob Krasula.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Betty; their pups, Britta and Winston; siblings, Sue (Joe) Poddany, Nancy Jacobs, Jan (Lauer) Steve Rinestine; brother-in-laws, John (Diane) Krasula, Paul (Patty) Krasula, Norm Krasula, Mike (Janey) Krasula; and many special nieces and nephews all over the country.
