Richard Michael Utter, 70, of Oregon, OH passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 31, 1938, in Toledo,Ohio to James F. and Susie(Hencher) Utter. He graduated from Macomber High School in 1957 where he played football and ran track.Richard worked for AP Parts for 10 years and was a longshoreman with the Toledo Lakefront Docks (CSX) for 33 years retiring in 2000. He was a 40 year member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church where he was a Eucharistic Minister and a server at Mass. Richard was an active member of the Holy Name Society and fried fish for the Lenten Dinners. He also ushered for special Masses and events at Rosary Cathedral and was a loyal volunteer with the Helping Hands of St. Louis. Richard was an avid Ohio State fan, past president of the Clay High School Athletic Boosters and most of all enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in sports and other activities.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Ruth A; children, Jane Marie (James) Kirkman,Jeffrey Michael (Joann) and John Richard Utter; brothers,James (Ginny) and Robert(Sharon) Utter; grandchildren,Jacqueline, Elizabeth and Ethan Kirkman,Samantha, Megan and Kayla Utter, Josh, Joey and J.J.Utter and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents andbrother, Ronald.
Friends may call at the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, 440 South Coy Road, Oregon on Friday, July 10, 2009, from 2-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. John Blaser on Saturday, July 11,2009, at 11 a.m. in St. Thomas Aquinas Church where the family will greet visitors after 10 a.m. Interment will take place in Lake Township Cemetery.
