Richard A. "Dick" West, 79, of Graytown, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at Mercy St. Charles Hospital. He was born on September 17, 1941 in Baltimore, Maryland to Richard and Mary (Menden) West. Dick graduated from Clay High School in 1959 and served in the Army National Guard for 6 years before obtaining his Associates Degree from Terra Tech. On October 2, 1965 he married the love of his life, Connie (Koszycki). Dick worked for Toledo Edison for 34 years as a Welding Foreman before retiring in 1993. He was a member at St. Boniface Catholic Church, an Ohio Master Gardner, specializing in tree identification since 1994 and was a life member of the American Welding Association. Dick worked for Byron Reed in his pit crew for over 20 years. He also worked with Larry Blake at indoor and outdoor tractor pull events repairing all the tractors that competed. Dick also enjoyed making natural wreaths for his family and in his earlier years raising and racing sled dogs. What he cherished most was his family, especially the yearly week vacations spent at their cottage in Canada on Rice Lake. Dick will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Dick is survived by his wife of 55 years, Connie; son, Paul (Stacey) West; daughter, Julie (Matt) Reynolds; brother, Robert (Sharon) West, Fred (Connie) West; grandchildren, Samantha (Drew) Young, Allie Reynolds, B.J., Kaleb and Olivia West; and great-grandchildren, Jake and Emma Young. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, John and Joe West.
Friends and family may visit Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Millbury Chapel, 1111 Woodville, Rd., Millbury, Ohio, 43447 on Sunday, March 28, 2021 from 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm. The family will also greet friends at St. Boniface Catholic Church 215 N. Church St., Oak Harbor, Ohio, 43449 on Monday, March 29, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow in Elliston Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society or the Kidney Foundation of Northwest Ohio. The family would like to give a special thank you to Davita Dialysis on Lemoyne Rd. for all their care and all of the friends Dick made there.
