Rita Seferian Seibert , 58, peacefully said goodbye to her family and friends, on Thursday, March 25 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Rita was diagnosed with endometrial cancer in 2018, but fought her illness with considerable resolve and courage. The overwhelming support of her family and friends throughout the past two years brought her much comfort.
Rita enjoyed the simple things in life and was very close to her family and many friends. She was a graduate of Bowsher High School, a member of Park Congregational Church, and worked for Dr. David Weaver and his daughter, Dr. Brittany Potts, for over 30 years. She had a passion for volunteering, gardening, crafts, estate sales, her euchre club, and for hosting big parties on July 4th, Christmas Eve and Sundays to watch her beloved Cleveland Browns. Rita was independent and could create, restore, and fix anything and was known for having a green thumb like her father, Sam. One of her many talents was teaching piano to young children which was her biggest passion.
Our sweet Rita's life revolved around her son, Jackson. They had an unbreakable bond and were the best of friends. A shining moment occurred in 2020 when Jack was awarded a coveted Evans Scholarship to The Ohio State University. A major motivation for Rita to continue her treatments was to see Jack graduate from college and grow to be the man that she worked so hard to raise.
Our fun loving Rita will forever be known as "Aunt Rita" to her family and friends, but she wasn't just an Aunt to her nieces and nephew; she was a big sister, friend and confidant. She had a special bond with her great niece and nephews and, of course, her forever companion, Desi the Beagle who protected his mom until the end.
She is preceded in death by her father, Sam Seferian. Surviving is her pride and joy, Jackson Reed Seibert and his father, John Seibert; Rita's mother, Dorothy Seferian; sisters, Suzanne [Ed] de la Pena and Jeanine [Nate] Khoury; brother, Steve Seferian; nieces and nephew, Nicole [Scott] Hayes Khoury, Nina [Sean] Elliot, Alicia [George] Harb, DeeDee [Michael] Buckley, Tyler de la Pena; great niece and nephews, Sam Elliot, Mae Elliot, Daniel Harb, Hudson Harb, Alex Hayes and Elliott Hayes. A special thanks to "Sister Sledge" Amy, Rex and Hope Childers for their ongoing love and support.
Rita's family would also like to thank Dr. Adam Walter and his staff, especially Natalie, Hannah, and Debbie, for their support during this difficult and emotional journey. A special thank you to Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their kindness and care during Rita's end-of-life journey.
Contributions in memory of Rita may be made to the Jackson Reed Seibert Trust Agreement and mailed to 3035 Villa Drive, Toledo, Ohio 43614.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
