Robert J. Abbott, 83 of Oregon, OH, died on February 18, 2005, in his home. Bob was a retired employee of Norfolk and Southern Railway, working mostly as a yardmaster. He was a veteran of World War II.
Bob is survived by his wife, Irene (Schrader); loving nephew, Rollie and his wife, Val Chapman; loving friends and caretakers, Bob Gahler and his fiance, Charlene Sutton who spent endless hours caring and encouraging him.
Bob had many young pals and friends whom he kept laughing and who loved him in return. Dave Grotz, Stevie Zachel, Ned Winch, Bob and Jim Kohne just to mention a few. He spent many happy hours hunting and just being buddies with them.
Bob was preceded in death by his daughter, Judi; stepson, Jerry Villhauer; sisters, Virginia (Gail) Chapman, Betty Blair and Dorothy Stark.
An estranged son, Robert J. Abbott Jr. of Illinois and his family also survive.
There will be no visitation and services will be private. The family suggest memorial contributions be made to Holy Rosary Church, First St. John Cemetery Fund, Oregon Jerusalem Historical Society or Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Arrangements are being handled by the Eggleston-Meinert-Pavley Funeral Home.
