Obituary

Robert "Bob" Munn Mitchell, age 83, passed away peacefully late Sunday night, April 22, 2007, with his family by his side. He was born in Glasgow, Scotland, to Robert and Margaret (Grant) Mitchell. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Suzanne; his three children, Heather (Bill) Renschler of Rocklin, California, John Mitchell of Findlay and Robin (Dan) Miller of Temperance, Michigan. He will be dearly missed by his five grandchildren, Katie (Jordan) Rofkar, Ben Mitchell, Lauren Renschler, Kelly Miller and Sarah Mitchell. He also is survived by his sister, Grace Crossan and family of Barrhead, Scotland and his nephew, Tom Gardner and family of Vancouver, Canada. Bob left school at the age of 14, working to help support his family. At the age of 15 he joined the Merchant Marines and served during World War II. He traveled across the Atlantic several times and celebrated his 16th birthday aboard a transport ship. Shortly thereafter he was dismissed for being under age and then began an apprenticeship in Glasgow with the North British Locomotive Company as a Methods Engineer, where he worked for thirteen years. In 1952, he emigrated from Scotland to the US to find work. Besides his clothes and a few personal items, he brought with him his prized possession; his golf clubs. He was an avid golfer and played up until the last couple of years. He recorded one hole-in-one and many "near misses". Bob, with his wife, Sue, belonged to the Swiss Club for many years and supported the Friends of Pearson Park. He was a 52-year member of the Masons. Additionally, he was a runner and enjoyed sailing and bowling with the Jolly Roger Sailing Club. Bob worked for Autolite, the Devilbiss Company and retired in 1987 as a sales manager for Brennan Industrial Trucks where he worked for more than 25 years. He had a long and valiant struggle with Parkinson's Disease that typified his attitude toward life. His positive outlook served him well. With his thick Scottish accent, easy going-manner and terrific sense of humor, he was well liked by the people he met and admired by those that knew him. He was affectionately called "Scotty". In the eyes of his family, he was the most decent, principled and honorable man they knew. His sense of integrity was unmatched. He has left many wonderful memories for his family and friends to cherish. Many special thanks to the staff at the Bayshore Commons Assisted Living wing of Orchard Villa. He made many friends while he lived there and will be remembered for his quick wit and genuine love of life. Visitation will be on Saturday at Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, 440 S. Coy Road, Oregon, Ohio, from 11:00-1:00, with a brief memorial service at 11:30. A celebration of his life will take place in Temperance, Michigan, following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer to direct donations to Northwest Ohio Hospice 30000 E. River Road, Perrysburg, Ohio or the Northwest Ohio Parkinson's Group 7099A Quail Lakes Drive, Holland, OH 43528. As to his wishes, Robert was cremated. He was a wonderful and supportive husband to Sue, a special Father and loving Grandpa. He will be missed tremendously. Farewell..."speed bonnie boat like a bird on the wing, over the sea to Skye, carry the lad that was born to be King, over the sea to Skye..." Visitation: Visitation Times Saturday, 11am - 1pm Oregon Chapel
