IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert "Bob"
Damschroder
May 30, 1925 – September 12, 2022
Robert "Bob" Damschroder, age 97, of Oregon, OH, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2022 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. He was born May 30, 1925 to Clayton and Ida Damschroder in Toledo, and grew up on the family farm outside of Oak Harbor.Bob graduated from Oak Harbor High School in 1943. During World War II he served in the US Army, stationed in France and Germany, and was awarded 2 purple hearts. After serving in the Army, Bob continued his education at The Ohio State University, earning a bachelor's degree in business. He went on to a successful career at the Internal Revenue Service and retired in 1980.
In 1958 he wed the love of his life Marian Mucci, and they enjoyed 60 years of marriage. Together they helped build their lifelong home in Oregon in 1960. He loved his patio overlooking the fields behind their house, and until recently, he could be seen cutting his own grass riding his beloved John Deere lawn mower. In 1987 Bob upgraded his view of the fields to a view of the water, purchasing a condo overlooking Lake Erie and the islands. While he wouldn't be caught in the water, he was happiest near it, and spent many enjoyable summers with family in Port Clinton. Bob and his wife were lifelong travelers. They belonged to the Nomads Travel Club, where they accumulated over 200,000 miles flying all over the world. He cherished adventure and seeing new places. Modes of transportation also fascinated him, especially trains and cars. His favorite of all his cars being a 1955 Pontiac Chieftain convertible, which was especially admired by Marian when they met.
In addition to being an adventurer, Bob was a fervent golfer, and proudly boasted that he had "golfed his age" at 85 years old. Later in life, he made history as the oldest member of the St. Mark Lutheran Church Dartball League. And of course, Bob loved to play just about any card game. His favorites were 31, Pinochle, and Gin Rummy, and he always had quarters handy to take on an opponent. Card game nights were enjoyed with friends and family well into his final year, and yes, he was still winning at age 97.
He was also passionate about technology and financial markets. As an avid reader of the Wall Street Journal, Bob closely followed the stock market and was always looking for his next opportunity to invest. His family knew well to consult him before any major computer, TV, or car purchases because he surely knew everything about it, and if he didn't he'd be on the way to Best Buy or the car dealer to find out.
Bob was a quiet man with a sharp sense of humor, yet he had a way of making everyone around him feel at ease. Within his family, he was a loving constant across generations – a dependable, supportive companion to his wife, daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Marian. Left to cherish his memory are daughter Deanne (Pete) Douglas; grandchildren, Bruce (Lauren) Douglas, Megan (Patrick) Tarkey, and Jennifer Douglas; great-grandsons, Peter and Johnathan Douglas.
