Robert Edward Dickinson, 81, of Oregon, Ohio passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 19, 2023 at Orchard Villa with his family by his side. Bob was born in Toledo, Ohio on November 6, 1941 to Robert H. and Winifred L. (Horsman) Dickinson. He is a 1959 graduate of Clay High School where he excelled as a member of the track team. After graduating, Bob joined the United States Army, serving in Vietnam. He was stationed in Saigon. His base was one of the first to be able to call home to the United States.
After his discharge from the Army Bob enrolled at Owens Community College where he graduated with a law enforcement degree. He proudly served on the Oregon Police Department as a patrolman, juvenile officer, where he was fondly referred to as "Officer Bob", sergeant, and lieutenant. He retired after 25 years of service. Bob was a motorcycle enthusiast. He was member, and former president, of the Blue Knights Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club. He also enjoyed spinning tunes with his longtime friend, Jimmy Vinet, as part of the DJ duo, "Jimmy and Bob".
Bob was known as the family lifeguard. He taught all of his children and grandchildren to swim when they were infants. You could always find him outside grilling and making memories with everyone at the pool. He was a very talented fixer upper. Whether it be cars, motorcycles, lawnmowers, or the grandchildren's bikes and toys, if he couldn't fix it, no one could.
Surviving are his wife, Susan P. Dickinson, children, Kari (Joe) Nowak, Jason Dickinson, Brandee (Kenny) Grosjean, Nick (Christina) Brann, Jarrett Brann, grandchildren, James (Alexandra) Dickinson, Nico (Ashley) Brann, Brooke Nowak, Aiden Brann, Kaitlyn Nowak, Savannah Grosjean, Seth Grosjean, great grandchildren, Kameryn Brann, Roman Brann, Lorelai Dickinson, siblings, Dennis (Rosemarie) Dickinson, Jackie (Howard) Kidd.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, and Esther and Herbert Schacht
Per Bob's wishes there will be no visitation or funeral services. A celebration of life will be planned at a later time. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Veterans Administration or the Ability Center of Greater Toledo.
