Robert K. Gatewood, 64, of Oregon, passed away on October 22, 2016 at St. Charles Hospital in Oregon. He was born on August 25, 1952 to John and Helen (Wisniewski) Gatewood. He was a graduate of Macomber High School and Heidleberg College. Robert was an Army veteran and was proud to serve his country during the Vietnam War. He worked as a Business Analyst for Sun Oil for 30 years before retiring in 2008. Robert adored his grandchildren and loved cooking, watching the birds and squirrels in his backyard and had a deep faith in God. Robert is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Cynthia; children, Melissa and Trevor Dutton, Kevin and Jennifer Gatewood and Rebecca and Tony Hernandez; grandchildren, McKenzie, Madelyn, Sawyer, Brooke, Jake, Zadra and Jace; and siblings, David Gatewood, Russ Gatewood and Debra Gatewood. He was preceded in death by his parents. Friends may visit at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Rd., on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A memorial service and military honors will be held at 5:00 p.m. Burial will be private. Robert was diagnosed with IPF two years ago. His family would like to thank Dr. Bernardo and the nurses who took care of him, especially Angie, Regina and Amy during his final hours.
