Robert C. Geisert, 101, of Oregon, Ohio passed away peacefully Thursday, August 11, 2022 at Arbors of Sylvania. He was born in Toledo, Ohio June 29, 1921 to Clarence and Helen (Balk) Geisert. He attended East Side Central Grade School and graduated from Waite High School in 1939. Bob attended the University of Toledo and enlisted in the United States Army Air Force in 1942. He married the love of his life, Dorothy Bushman July 11, 1942 prior to leaving for Air Force service. Mr. Geisert graduated from pilot school November 3, 1943 and became a B-24 Liberator Pilot. He was stationed in Italy with the 15th Air Force and became a POW on his 19th mission when his plane was destroyed by enemy fighters. Following military service, Bob returned to Owens-Illinois Glass Company in the design department, retiring in 1983 as manager of the mold control department after 42 years. Bob was past president of the Owens Illinois Duraglass Credit Union and Owens Illinois Duraglass Onized Club. He was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church for 95 years where he was baptized and confirmed.
Memberships included: Cooley Canal Yacht Club, Toledo Power Squadron, 75-year member of Port Lawrence/ Paragon Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Zenobia Shrine Mariners, Ex- P.O.W.'s Maumee Valley Chapter #5, GBU #510, Owens-Illinois Golden Emblems, D.A.V., 449th Bomb Group, and Dunberger American Legion Post #537. Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, was an avid traveler, and wintered in the Florida Keys and Punta Gorda until Hurricane Charley ended his winter vacations.
Bob is survived by his children David (Kathryn) Geisert and Lynne (Delmer France) Shoup; grandchildren, Jason (Sarah) Draper and Stacy Wolfram; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Kacey, Camryn Jase, Dale, and Taylor. Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy; son-in-law, Gerald Shoup; and sister, Joyce Reitz.
The family will receive friends at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road Wednesday, August 17, 2022 from 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm where Paragon Masonic Lodge services will be held at 6:30 pm and Cooley Canal Yacht Club services at 7:00 pm. Funeral services Thursday, August 18, 2022 at 11:00 am in St. Mark Lutheran Church, 611 Woodville Road, Toledo, where the family will greet friends at 10:00 am. Interment: Lake Township Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to Shriner's Hospital for Children or a charity of the donor's choice.
