Robert W. Giblin, 84, of Oregon, Ohio passed away March 4, 2009 at Heartland of Oregon. He was born in Toledo, Ohio on October 21, 1924 to Wilbur and Norma Giblin. Robert proudly served his country with the US Navy Seabees during WWII in the Pacific Theater. He was a talented artist attending the Chicago Institute of Art following his honorable discharge from the Navy. He designed the original patch of the Seabees while serving in the Navy. He shared his beautiful artwork with family and friends.
Robert retired form LOF after 33 years of working. Robert, also known as "Chopper", earned the rank of 5th degree "Godan" blackbelt in Judo. He taught hundreds of students during his life long career as a blackbelt including his 3 grandsons. He volunteered teaching Judo at the YMCA in Toledo and the East Toledo Community Center. Robert also enjoyed gardening, vacationing to the Carribean, Mexico, Cuba, and many other warm destinations. He played his harmonica often, entertaining family and the residents and staff at Heartland of Oregon where he lived the last years of his life. The family would like to thank the staff from Heartland of Oregon, Heartland Hospice, Dr. Riaz Chaudhary and Gail "Dr" Doxsie CNP for their loving care.
Surviving are his loving wife of 38 years, Nasibe. He is also survived by his daughter, Linda (Carl) Blaesing of Holland, Ohio; grandsons, Carl (Melanie) Blaesing of Beaufort, SC, Matthew (Jenna) Blaesing of Toledo, Ohio, Joshua Radford of Monroe, MI; granddaughters, Carrie (Bryan) Dadey of Holland, Ohio, Brittany Radford of Kentucky; sisters, Helen Schimmel of Ludington, MI and twin sister Ruth (Kenny) Sheldon of Genoa, Ohio; brother, Clarence Giblin of Toledo, Ohio; special sister-in law, Noreida Shaheen of Oregon, Ohio; 5 great-grandchildren, Carter and Carlie Blaesing of Beaufort, SC, Jaxson and Anderson Dadey of Holland, Ohio and Dayton Meade of Monroe, MI; and many nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Liesa Radford of Whitehouse, Ohio, and his sister, Wilma Giblin of Toledo, Ohio.
Visitation will be held from 4-9 p.m. on Friday, March 6, 2009 at the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Saturday at 10 a.m. with entombment following in Restlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. Expressions of sympathy in Robert's memory can be made to The Victory Center of Toledo or the American Heart Association.
