Robert Lee Humbarger (always known as "Bob"), passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at Otterbein Sunset Village SeniorLife Community in Sylvania, Ohio with his daughter Linda at his side.

Bob was born on March 4, 1932, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to John Arlow and Helen (Mumma) Humbarger. He graduated from Southview High School and went on to earn his bachelor's degree in accounting from Bowling Green State University in 1953. He and Luella "Lou" Sendi met in the dining hall at age 17 during their freshman year when Lou shared extra food with the handsome college boy who sat with her each day. Through dining hall meals and their SAE and the KD Greek life activities, Bob and Lou soon became inseparable. As an SAE, Bob proudly became a "True Gentle Man," valuing accountability and excellence in all aspects of his life. Throughout the rest of his life, Bob exemplified the attributes of a True Gentleman-he was kind, generous to a fault and always strived for high life standards. Although he was a quiet and gentle man, Bob's wide smile could light up a room.

After graduation from BGSU in 1953, Bob moved to Toledo to be close to Lou and her family. He took an accounting position at the DeVilbiss Company while Lou taught first grade at Birmingham Elementary School. On June 26, 1954, Bob joyfully married Lou, the love of his life. The couple went on to share over 67 loving years of marriage. Bob and Lou purchased their first home in 1957 on Grasser Street in Oregon and raised their children there. Bob and Lou believed that marriage is teamwork and the couple exhibited their beautiful partnership in all aspects of their lives together.

In retirement, Bob and Luella enjoyed traveling the world with AAA travel groups-they visited far-flung places from the Panama Canal to Turkey, from Alaska to the Mediterranean and many European and Scandinavian countries. Ted and Phyllis Jenkins, their longtime friends and neighbors, were the Humbarger's faithful travel companions. Bob and Luella were the go-to babysitters for Linda's children, and they also visited California several times a year to spend time with their West Coast grandchildren. Bob and Lou loved attending musical, theater and sporting events. A strong supporter of the Oregon community, Bob served as an Ombudsman at St. Charles Hospital, was a long-time member of the Oregonians Club and a faithful member of Calvin United for more than 70 years. He enjoyed Up North vacations with his family, fishing and golf, Oregonian friends and Boy Scout excursions with his sons. He was an avid supporter of all BGSU sporting events.

Bob's life was built around family, home projects and church life. His family called him "Bob the Builder." From renovating the basement at the Grasser Street home to painting or wallpapering along with countless projects on visits to California, Bob's inherent skills and talents were always used to make things better. Bob enjoyed helping with maintenance and landscaping/gardening at Calvin United.

Overall, there was nothing more important to Bob than the people he loved. He took great pride in his children and their accomplishments and loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren deeply. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Linda (Jon) Limbach, Tom (Nancy) Humbarger, and Gary (Peter Bartels) Humbarger; grandchildren, Eric (Abby Lott) Limbach, Nathan Limbach, Scott (Libby Kokamoor) Humbarger, Brian (Annie Rusk) Humbarger, Henry Humbarger and Kit Humbarger. Bob adored looking at photos of Simone, Will B. and Cyrus, his three great-grandchildren. Bob's legacy will live on as he will soon be blessed with two more great-grandchildren!

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Arlow Humbarger and Helen Grogg, his beloved wife of 67 years, Luella Humbarger and his brother, James Humbarger. Bob will be remembered most for his love of family and the life partnership that he and Luella built together over so many years. His presence, guidance, and devotion to those closest to him will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all.

Private graveside services were held for the family at Lake Township Cemetery. A Celebration of Life honoring Bob will be held at a future date at Calvin United Church of Christ.
