Robert 'œBob' Martin, 85, of Maumee, OH and formerly of Oregon, Ohio passed away peacefully on June 2, 2013 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio Perrysburg, with his loving family by his side. He was born in Toledo, Ohio on May 26, 1928 to Harold and Ruth (Ward) Martin. Bob was a Graduate of Waite High School. He attended General Motors Tech, Detroit, MI, Gulf Business Adm., University of Toledo-Public Works and Oklahoma Stat University, Road & Street Maintenance. Bob was employed for 9 years at L.O.F. He was owner of Martin'™s Gulf Service Station for 26 years, employed for 2 years at the Oregon Municipal Court and was Commissioner of Streets for the City of Oregon for 10 years.
Bob was a U.S. Navy WWII Veteran and was present for Operation Crossroads atom bomb tests in Bikini Atoll. He was a resident of Oregon for 46 years and served as an Oregon City councilman for 8 years. In October of 2001 he moved to Maumee, Ohio, and was a winter resident of Bradenton, FL. Bob'™s memberships included the American Legion Arthur Daly Post, Master Mason, Paragon Lodge #788 F. & A.M., past president and secretary of the Oregon Businessmen'™s Association, president of the Oregon Police Athletic League, Oldtimers Golden Gloves, High Twelve Club, Kiwanis Club of East Toledo and an Ombudsman for St. Charles Hospital for 17 years.
Surviving are his loving wife of 58 years, Betty; sons, Robert (Jackie) and Danny (Tracy) Martin; grandchildren, Jake and Brooke and Monica Martin. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends and family may visit at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road on Thursday from 2-9 p.m. with Paragon Masonic Services at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Friday, June 7, 2013 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in N. Oregon Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
