Robert William Schumaker
Robert W. Schumaker, 87, of Toledo, OH, passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2006 in Kingston Care Center of Sylvania. He was born in Toledo, OH on November 6, 1918 to William Victor and Mathilda (Schuffenecker) Schumaker. Bob was employed as a process superintendent at Sohio for 46 years and retired in 1984. He graduated from Clay High School in 1936 and continued to Ohio State University for 2 years. Bob was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, where he was a deacon and past president of parish education, and of the parish trustees. He was a member and president of Oregon City Council district 5 from 1964-1968 and a member of the Civil Service Commission in the City of Oregon serving 3 terms of 6 years since 1986. He volunteered over 5000 hours at the Lutheran Home at Toledo. Bob was also a member of many organizations, a wildlife naturalist for the Metro Parks System; a member of the Hanson Hall of Fame; past master of Lotus Lodge #625 F&AM, receiving his 50 year pin; Past Commander of Eutah Commandry, member of Port Lawrence Chapter 176 RAM; Vistula Council 108 R Zenobia Shrine and the Crusaders. Bob received the distinguished achievement award from the Grand Council Royal and Select Masons of Ohio and the distinguished award from the Vistula Council #108 Royal and Select Masons of Ohio. Bob also received the Volunteer of the year award from A.A.R.P. He was a lifetime member of the Toledo Zoo and The Historical Society of Oregon. Bob was also a member of the West Hancock Senior Center and the Toledo High Twelve Club.
Surviving are his loving wife of 65 years, Lorna Margaret; children, Alan (Judy) Schumaker of Toledo, OH, Dr. David (Katherine) Schumaker of North Canton, OH, Randy (Deidre) Schumaker of Bowling Green, KY; grandchildren, Mark Schumaker, Colin Schumaker, Laura Sniadanko, Karen Benoit, Kelly Schumaker, Erin Schumaker, Amy Schumaker; great-grandchildren, Maya, Cora and Grace Schumaker and Connor Sniadanko. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Barbara Noviss.
Family and friends may visit at the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Rd. on Friday, August 18, 2006 from 2 until 9 pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11am in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy in Bob's memory are asked to consider St. Mark Lutheran Church.
