Obituary

Robert Henry Toedter, age 64, of Oregon, Ohio passed away peacefully Thursday evening, February 24, 2022, with his wife and children by his side, after a brave, decade-long fight with illness. Born in Toledo January 29, 1958, Robert was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Jean (Vischer) Toedter and father, William C. Toedter. Robert graduated Toledo's Rogers High School in 1976. The youngest of Betty and Bill's five children, Robb was afflicted at an early age with polio, but moved swiftly through life never once showing or complaining about the struggles left from the childhood disease. Robb had a culinary gift and a desire to please the palates of Toledo and abroad. He spent many years alongside Toledo restaurateurs like Fifi Berry at Fifi's and John Wesley at JD Wesley's Bistro. With the help of brother Bill, Robb opened the Blue Marlin inside the Ottawa River Yacht Club. While boaters were pleased and regattas were successful, it is here where the love affair with Pamela Sattler began. Robb and Pam moved to Atlantic City, New Jersey, where he served east coast "high-rollers" at Bally's Park Place Casino & Hotel. Lucky in cards and lucky in love, he married Pam in 1987 on a beautiful fall day in A.C. They returned home to the Toledo area with a new family in 1990, and soon Robb was back in the kitchen, as Chef at the elite Rattlesnake Island private resort on Lake Erie. Robb had such a genuine kindness about him, a trait surely inherited from Betty. He was almost generous to a fault and left everyone with a smile, if not a laugh. He took these caring traits to Toledo Memorial Park in Sylvania, where he spent his last years prior to retirement, helping grieving families. After retiring, Robb spent most of his time by Pam's side, cherishing their children and young grandchildren, Amaya and Noah who were his pride and joy. They recently checked off a bucket list that took them from Cooperstown to Florida, The Bahamas to Belize, and the Rocky Mountains to California, taking in a ball game with his son and beloved Oakland A's. Robert's legacy lives on with his son, Robert (Brittany); grandchildren, Amaya and Noah and daughter, Katie (Sean) McGee and their soon-to-arrive first child. Surviving are his devoted wife, Pam; Robb's siblings, Tom Toedter, Becki (Gary) Laparl, The Villages, FL, William (Peggy) Toedter, Waterville, OH; as well as his close mother-in-law, Judith Sattler; special in-laws, Carol (Scott) Shoemaker, Dave (Becky) Sattler, and Tara (Scott) Rau; along with many nieces and nephews. His sister, Barbara "Babi" Jean (Ron) Cole passed away in 2007. Pam's father, Ronald Sattler, with whom Robb had a special bond, passed away in 2010. Visitation for friends and family will be held at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S.
