Obituary

Roger W. Martin, 81, of Oregon, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. He was born on January 20, 1945 to Rolland and Blanche (Mosure) Martin in Toledo, Ohio.

He was raised in Toledo and graduated from Waite High School in 1963. During his high school years, he was an accomplished bowler, earning second place in the state and sixth place in the nation, an achievement he remained proud of throughout his life.

On August 21, 1965, Roger married his high school sweetheart, Claudette Fancher. Their marriage was a true partnership built on love, loyalty, and shared adventures, including many cherished vacations to Mexico and Aruba.

Roger dedicated his working life to skilled, dependable service. He spent 17 years at Baron Steel before continuing his career as a machine repairman with Ford Motor Company, where he worked for 30 years before retiring in 2007. His strong work ethic and mechanical knowledge were hallmarks of his career. After retirement, Roger remained active by volunteering at Eagles Landing Golf Course, where he enjoyed collecting golf balls, a pastime that brought him great satisfaction.

Faith and service were important to Roger. He was a devoted member of Memorial United Church of Christ and an active member of the Masonic Order, Yondota Chapter, Paragon Lodge. He was also deeply involved with the Harbor View Yacht Club, proudly serving as Past Commander in 1999.

Roger believed strongly in giving back. He volunteered at Bay Park Hospital and was a proud, regular Red Cross blood donor beginning in 1985. His personal goal was to donate 50 gallons of blood, and he had already reached an incredible 40 gallons, a testament to his generosity and commitment to helping others.

In his everyday life, Roger found happiness in simple pleasures. He was a devoted Ohio State Buckeyes fan, loved peanut butter straight out of the jar, and enjoyed collecting meaningful keepsakes that told the story of his interests and friendships.

Roger will be remembered for his kindness, dedication, sense of humor, and the quiet ways he made the world better. His legacy lives on through the love he shared with his family, friends, and community.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 60 years, Claudette Martin; children, Susan (Warren) Morris and Michael Martin; grandchildren, Ashley, Andrew, Aleshia, Michael II, and Juan Yabarra; 20 great-grandchildren; sisters, Sharon (Tim) Grice and Cindy (Dick) Zieroff; and many nieces and nephews.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dennis Martin; sisters-in-law, Marlene Cash and Dixie Conine; and brother-in-law, Gail Fancher.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 2, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. until the time of funeral services at 6:00 p.m. Burial will be private for the family.
