Roger L. Tharpe Sr., 74, of Oregon, Ohio, passed away peacefully, Monday, February 27, 2017, surrounded by his family. He was born in Uniontown, Pennsylvania on June 11, 1942 to Ray and Bertha (McCourt) Tharpe. Roger served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. Following military service, Roger worked at GM Powertrain for over 30 years, retiring in 1998. He enjoyed camping and fishing on Lake Erie on his boat "Slo Motion". His true passion was spending time with his family; especially his late wife, Shirley.
Roger is survived by his son, Roger (Laura) Tharpe Jr.; grandsons, Roger Ray Tharpe and Tyler James Tharpe; great-granddaughters, Quinn Elizabeth and Audrey Violet; siblings, Ida Dell, Annabell, Homer, Johnny, Jim, Rita Jean, and Bertram; along with many nieces, nephews, and loving family members. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley (Isler) Tharpe; and siblings, Madge, Stephen, Rosemary, and Millie.
The family will receive friends at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road on Friday, March 3, 2017 from 10:00 am until time of funeral service at 12:30 pm.
