Roger L. VonEwegen, 81, of Oregon, Ohio passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2008, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Toledo, Ohio on March 8, 1926, to Herbert and Ruth (Reaper) VonEwegen. Roger was a graduate of Clay High School. After military service in the Pacific during WWII he graduated from the University of Toledo College of Pharmacy. Roger then joined his father at the pharmacy located at Starr Avenue and East Broadway in East Toledo. He later built a pharmacy and medical building on Navarre Avenue in Oregon. Roger was an accomplished pilot, flying to many locations in the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean. He was a past president of the Toledo Academy of Pharmacy, a life member of the American Legion and the VFW. His hobbies included fishing and hunting. He especially enjoyed meeting with his friends at the Freeway Restaurant for morning coffee. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Grace; daughter, Gail (Ken Nagel) Shiple; sons, Jack (Zulma) and William (Mary Jo) VonEwegen, both of Angola, Indiana; grandchildren, Bethany (Robert) Duke, Carla (Shawn) Spears, Brett VonEwegen, Evan VonEwegen, Wesley VonEwegen, Leah VonEwegen, Sarah VonEwegen, Kimberly Shiple, and Justin Shiple. He is also survived by great-grandchildren, Marisa Duke; Grant, Ethan, and Grady Spears. Roger was preceded in death by his parents and infant daughter, Faye Ellen. Friends, neighbors, and associates of Roger are invited to join his family at the GAF Clubhouse at Oak Shade Grove on Sunday, March 2, 2008, from 2-5 p.m. to share memories of Roger and to celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, Roger's family asks that donations be made to the Kidney Foundation of Northwest Ohio, 3100 W. Central Avenue, Toledo, Ohio 43606 or to Hospice of Northwest Ohio. A special thanks is extended to the staff of St. Charles Hospital and Hospice of Northwest Ohio for all of their wonderful care.
