Rosemary G. Riley, 85, of Curtice, Ohio a lover of family, farming and horses, passed away Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Genoa Care and Retirement Community with her family by her side. Rosemary was born in Dallas, Texas on March 9, 1929 to Edward J and Gertrude (Snyder) McGarry. Rosemary was a 1947 graduate of Central High School, and then went on to St. Vincent School of Nursing School graduating in 1950. As a registered nurse she retired from St. Vincent and St. Charles Hospital where she worked in the birthing room, later volunteering at both hospitals in the Pastoral Care Office. While working one day, Rosemary delivered a baby in the back seat of a taxi cab. Rosemary was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church where she was a Eucharistic Lay Minister, trained and served as a Lector, sang in the choir and was a member of the Altar Rosary Society. While her children were in school, she was Jerusalem Twp. Mother'™s Club Treasurer and also a substitute Cub Scout Den Mother. She made volunteering part of her life, volunteering for the American Red Cross; Northwest Ohio Lung Association; Migrant Clinic as a R.N.; Jerusalem Twp. Food Bank; Ohio Cooperative Extension Service and the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center. Rosemary received the 'œDiocesecan Centenary Award and the President'™s Volunteer Service Award for all her volunteer work. Rosemary also was the Public health nurse for Oregon City School. She coached girl'™s softball for Jerusalem Township Rec., winning the championship in her younger years. Many have heard her report on three local news stations, as she was a volunteer weather observer and for the National Weather Service, Toledo Express Airport.
Rosemary was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, James in December of 2013; her parents; brother, Edward Gene McGarry.
She is survived by her children, Daniel (Peggy) Riley, William (Val) Riley, John (Mary) Riley and Mary Jo (Mike) Doria; 10 grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel on Thursday from 2 until 8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 11:00 A.M. in St. Ignatius Catholic Church, 212 N. Stadium Road. And where the family will greet friends beginning at 10:00 A.M. Interment will follow in St. Ignatius Cemetery.
