Obituary

Ross William Eugene Bennett passed away at home on April 1st, 2025. He was born on June 23rd, 1958, to Forrest Eugene Bennett and Betty Sisler Bennett.

He was born in Clifton Forge, Virginia, and raised there and in Crag, West Virginia, until 1963 when the family moved to Walbridge, Ohio. He graduated in 1976 from Lake High School and started working at CSX on the rail crew. In 1978, he married the love of his life, Ruth Weatherholtz. They welcomed their daughter, Becky Lynn Bennett, in July 1982 — a light and blessing in his life.

Ross had a fulfilling career on the railroad. After retiring, he remained close with many friends, sharing his faith with them, and was overjoyed when several accepted the Lord.

The true joy of Ross's life was his faith in Jesus Christ, the love of God, and his devotion to his family, friends, and church. Ross was an ordained minister and dedicated his life to spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He began attending Athens Missionary Baptist Church in Walbridge in his youth, where he accepted Jesus, was baptized, and later answered God's call into the ministry to share the good news of hope and salvation with the world.

He pastored several churches over the years, including Bellevue Baptist and Independent Freewill Baptist Church, and served as a guest minister at many others. Wherever God called him, Ross obeyed — even if it meant preaching in a small church in a remote area. His spiritual integrity was deeply rooted in following God's will. He inspired many, and his impact will continue through his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.

Ross was the kindest and most honest man you could meet. He would give his last dollar to a stranger and trust that God would provide. He prayed constantly — for strangers, for his family, for the lost, the suffering, and his church family. He loved everyone just like Jesus did and treated every person with compassion and grace, even those who were unkind to him. Ross lived the Word of God daily, to the very best of his ability.

He loved his family fiercely and always made an effort to make each child in the family feel special. Whether it was slipping a dollar or two into their hands or picking out a thoughtful gift, he made sure they felt loved. Ross treated his nieces and nephews as his own children. He loved to sing and make joyful noise during family gatherings, always creating lasting memories.

Ross was also a loyal sports fan, especially of the Detroit Tigers and the Dallas Cowboys.

Ross was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest Eugene Bennett I and Betty Sisler Meadows; his brother, Forrest Eugene Bennett II; his mother and father in-law, Verco and Sue Weatherholtz; his sister in-law Geri Skiver; his brother in-law Bob Timpe and his grandparents, William Franklin and Gladys Molly Bennett, and Raymond and Myrtle Sisler.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth Bennett; his daughter, Becky Bennett; Marilyn (Lou); Jeff (Laryn) Kaitlyn, Lilly, and Emma Wheeler; grandson, Jace Hartsock; and his siblings: Tamela (Jim) Ledford, Cindy Bennett Hartman, and Jimmy (Tish) Bennett; his sister in-law Patricia Timpe.

Ross was also a beloved uncle to his nieces and nephews: Sarah (Nate) Kissel, Josh (Jessica) Ledford, Andy (Sara) Ledford, Scott (Rachael) Hartman, Samantha (Matt) Timmons, Forrest Bennett III, Greg Bennett, Ryan Bennett, Haley Bennett, Mallory Bennett, Jacob Bennett, Joseph Bennett, Kellie (Rob) Marchetto, Carrie (Eric) Bedee, Kim (Paul) Blocking, Chloe(Eddie) Freyre, Clara Mahler.
