Russell A. Varwig Jr., 63, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away on February 5, 2021 at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center after his battle with COVID-19 . He was born in Toledo, Ohio on June 30, 1957 to Russell and Shirley (Hamilton) Varwig. He worked as a production worker for Spartan Chemical for 43 years. Russell coached football and baseball for many years. He notably coached the Franklin Bulldogs in the ETJF League. He was a jack of all trades and could fix anything. Russell loved music, playing guitar and the band KISS. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, especially during Christmas.
Russell is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Tina; children, Russell Varwig III, Jennifer (Robert) Varwig Abner and Kevin (Amber) Varwig; grandchildren, Boston (his father, Michael) Heidet, Bronx Abner, Jersey Abner and Brooklyn Abner; siblings, Jean (Bob) Clark, Cathy Meagher and Lori Varwig; many nieces, nephews and extended family; beloved wiener dogs, Pinto, Dr. Pepper, Oscar, Mary and BBQ; and cat, Cupid. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 12, 2021 from 12:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road. A private service for family will be held later.
