Ruth G. Reeder, 91, of Oregon, Ohio, passed away peacefully, Friday, August 18, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. Ruth was born in Toledo, Ohio on November 4, 1925 to George and Mary Lagger. She attended Central Catholic High School and graduated from Whitney as a seamstress. In 1942, Ruth began corresponding with the love of her life, Mel Reeder after he handpicked her from a group of photographs while serving in the Navy. This innocent pen-pal relationship developed into 70 inspiring years of marriage which included 20 years of military life. She loved collecting statues of the Blessed Virgin Mary which could be found throughout her home and rose garden. Ruth dedicated her life to serving others and volunteered with many local organizations. For 30 years, she could be found delivering mail at St. Charles Hospital. Her hobbies included: world traveling, playing cards, painting, line dancing, working puzzles and making ice cream pies. Ruth will be dearly missed by her family who were her greatest love.
Ruth is survived by her children, Ronald D. Reeder, Sr. and Sharon (Ronald) Witt; 5 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and sister, Mary Ann McQueary; along with many loving family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mel; 5 brothers and 2 sisters.
The Rosary be will be recited Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at 9:00 am in St. Ignatius Catholic Church, 212 North Stadium Road Oregon. Visitation will follow the rosary service until time of Funeral Mass at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery.
