Ruth J. Schaefer, 83, of Oregon, Ohio passed away on June 19, 2012, at Parkcliffe Community Care. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio on September 2, 1928, to Elvis and Ruth (Ahrens) Whitlow. Ruth was totally dedicated to her family as was her husband, George who preceded her in death. Both believed in the power of education making sure that all five children graduated from college. Ruth was a homemaker as well as working for Sears for 20 years before retiring in 1985. She was a proud grandmother of 14 and great grandmother of 10 who brought great joy to her life. Enjoying travel, reading, and golf, Ruth was also an avid fan of her kids as they participated and coached many sports. Ruth is survived by her children: Janet (Tim) Keefe, Gary (Susan) Schaefer, Craig (Donna) Schaefer, George (Kim) Schaefer, Ruth (John) Macon, and her brother, Don (Bessie) Smith and his family. She was preceded in death by her parents. Ruth was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church and Mercy St. Charles Auxiliary where she also volunteered. She also belonged to a Sears Retiree Group and the Bay Area Investment Club. Friends may visit at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 South Coy Rd., on June 22, 2012, from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mark'™s Lutheran Church, 611 Woodville Rd.
