Obituary

Samuel L. Thomas, 65, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away on November 9, 2014. Sam was born in Toledo, Ohio on November 26, 1948 to Samuel and Mary (Bartha) Thomas Jr. He was a 1966 graduate of Waite High School then went to Cotter Apprenticeship School. Sam married the love of his life, Carol (Schmidt) on January 13, 1968. Sam was a proud Iron Worker for Local 55 and spent the last 20 years working for the City of Toledo, Department of Streets Bridges & Harbors. He enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling with his wife to Cape May, New Jersey and Suttons Bay, Michigan. Sam loved to fish on Lake Erie. He was a die hard Detroit sports fan. Sam was known for being the 2 dollar bill man and his granddaughter Jordan loved receiving them. Sam was a loving husband, father and great friend; he will truly be missed by all. Sam is survived by his wife of 46 years, Carol; son, Phil (Kelli) Thomas, granddaughter, Jordan Thomas; daughter, Jill Dusseau; sisters, Katie (Duane) Hubaker, Stephanie Sweet, Andrea (James) Meyers, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Joe Dusseau; brother-in-law, Allen Sweet and sister-in-law, Patricia McLennan. Friends may call at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road on Friday, November 14, 2014 from 2-8 pm. In lieu of flowers Sam'™s wishes memorial contributions be directed to the Toledo Zoo or the Toledo Humane Society. The family would like to give a special thanks to everyone who helped during his illness, especially Dr. Sachs and the wonderful nurses at Toledo Clinic Cancer Center.
