Obituary

Stanley Young, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend died on Thursday, March 24, 2005 in Toledo Hospital. Born on Feb. 13, 1921, in Toledo, Ohio, Stanley's greatest joys came from spending time with his family and friends. Giving of himself, having a great work ethic, and being empathetic toward others characterized him as a person. Stanley married Beatrice Payne Young on May 26, 1944 and they had 60 years together. Beatrice was very ill over the last couple of years and she died on June 17, 2004. Stanley was a devoted caretaker to Bea even though it was an immense challenge for him. Since Bea's death, Stanley moved into Kingston Residence of Sylvania and had wonderful care in the Enhanced Assisted Living Unit. Stanley graduated from Waite High School in 1940 and frequently boasted about his East Side roots. He was proud to have served his country during World War II as a navigator bombardier on a B-17 crew. From 1942-1945, he was assigned to the 8th Air Force 398th Bomb Group. He was part of the 600th Squadron located in Nuthampstead, England. Stan was employed by Doehler Jarvis / National Lead as a tool and dye maker. From the late 50's to the mid 60's, he was a UAW Union Negotiator, and made considerable contributions for Labor in Toledo. The Lutheran Church was a very important part of Stanley's life. He was baptized, confirmed and married at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in East Toledo. For the remainder of his life, he was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Curtice, Ohio. Both the pastor and the congregation were loved and very much appreciated by Stanley (Brigg). When asked how important religion was to him, he always responded, "There is nothing more important!" Stanley is survived by sons Mark Young of Eureka, CA. and Jan Young of Toledo, OH. Mark's family includes his wife Lorraine and daughters Brett, Addie, and Blythe Young all from Eureka. Jan's family includes his wife, Judy and daughters Kristen Young of Seattle, WA. and Katie Young of Chicago, Ill.
