Stephen Samuel Thompson, Jr., 83, passed away on April 28, 2011, at home. He was born on May 22, 1927, in Columbus, Ohio, to Stephen, Sr., and Hazel Petry Thompson. He was a WWII Army veteran. Steve was a night supervisor for CSX Railroad and worked at the Presque Isle Docks. He began his career as a laborer and was a member of the International Longshoremen'™s Association Local #1768 for 52 years. For six years, Steve was also the owner and head chef of a restaurant and steak house, Time and Place, on Miracle Mile. Steve was active in the community. He was a founding member of Christ United Methodist Church and a 32nd Degree Mason with the Damascus Lodge #643, as well as a member of Zenobia Shrine, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, and Royal Arch Masons. He was a member of the Order of Eastern Star #341. Steve'™s interests included the arts and he was a member of National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors and an avid supporter of Toledo Art Museum, Toledo Symphony and Toledo Opera.
Stephen is survived by wife, Carol Thompson; daughter, Cindy McCormick (Chris), granddaughter, Renee Hudson, grandson Louis Roy, Jr. (Kathy), great grandchildren, Aleah Roy, Samantha Hubbel, and Chelsea Hudson; son Bryan (Andrea), grandchildren, Cassidy and Bryce; nieces and nephews, Pamela Simenski, Darcy Rossi, Michelle Breeden, Michael, James, John, Jeremiah, Jr., and Stephanie Thompson. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Jeremiah Sr., and sister, Barbara J. Faneuff.
Friends may visit at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Rd., on Monday, May 2, 2011, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Masonic services will be held at 7:00 p.m. followed by Order of Eastern Star Services. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Christ United Methodist Church. The service will be preceded by a visitation period and followed by interment in the Lake Township Cemetery.
