Obituary

Theodore R. Federici, 83 of Oregon, OH, passed away on April 29, 2006 at Foundation Park Care Center.  Theodore  was born on November 21, 1922 to Fred and Clara (Muffie) Federici in DuBois, Pennsylvania.  Ted was a US Army veteran serving during WWII and was a member of the Dunberger  American Legion Post No. 537.  He was also a lifelong member of First St. Mark's Lutheran Church.  Ted was employed with the Oregon Board of Education for 34 years and also served on Oregon City Council for 7 terms.  His many memberships include Oregonians, Ohio High School Football Coaches Association, Yondota  Masonic Lodge No 572, Italian American Sports Club, The Old  Newsboys, Zenobia Shrine, National Football Coaches Association, Red Cross Blood Donor, Charter Member of Oregon Federation of Teachers.  Theodore initiated Oregon Pee Wee Football Program and the Clay High School Booster Club in 1951.  A Brick of Champions was placed on Hall of Fame Wall in Dayton, Ohio in his name for the years of 1952 & 1953.  He was installed in James Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 1967.  He was part of the first team of 6 brothers to play a game coached by their father.  He was inducted into the Bike Century Club in 1961, with 100 victories, Ohio University's Green & White Club in 1968,  The National Italian American Sports Hall Of Fame in 1991, Clearfield County Region Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, Clearfield, Pennsylvania, April 24, 1993, the National Federation of State High School Associations Sports Hall of Fame in Kansas City on June 29, 1993, and most recently Clay High School's Alumni & Friends Association  Hall Of Fame, 2004.  Theodore was selected Findlay College's  Outstanding Alumni in 1968,  Alumni Coach of the Year in 1973, and Athletic Hall of Fame in 1982.  He received the Clay High School Super Booster Award in 1982. Clay Memorial Stadium's football field has been named Ted Federici Field.  He was regional Director of Ohio High School Football Coaches for 12 years.  Theodore served as President of Ohio High School Football Coaches Association for two terms.  He was guest speaker for many colleges, high school football clinics, clubs and organizations throughout Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Georgia.  On May 15, 1993 the Ted & Helen Federici Scholarship Fund was established, an annual scholarship for Clay High School student athletes.  Theodore was honored at the Regional All Star Football Committee, Perrysburg, Ohio on July 24, 1993 as an outstanding coach. Ted has had articles published in Ohio's First & Ten Magazine, Ohio's High School Athletic Magazine and The Coaching Clinic magazine.  He was also author of Helpful Hints for Young High School Coaches, and the song Ode to a Quitter.    In addition to teaching and coaching High School Football, Ted coached with the Toledo Tornados for 3 years under Coach Bob Snyder, he also was part of the coaching staff with the Ohio North South All Star Football Game, 1967 & 1970.  He was a member of the Pennsylvania Ohio Big 33 Game coaching staff in 1970.  These are just a few of Ted's many accomplishments.  During his lifetime he touched the lives of many individuals, and will be long remembered and admired.  You Gotta Love It!   Theodore is survived by his daughters, Patricia (Thomas) Davis and Sue (Thomas) Lutz; brothers, James (Mary Margaret), Joseph, Rudolph (Peggy) and Bert (Linda) Federici; sisters, Frances Sherkosky and Antoinette Vinzinia, Julie (Dominic) Suplizio and Shirley Radaker; sisters-in-law, Mary Federici, Dorie Highsmith and Rosey Jones; grandchildren, Bradley (Sue) Davis and Laura Davis, Andrea and Tommy Lutz; great-granddaughter, Allison Davis and many nieces and nephews.  Ted was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen;  daughter, Sharon Federici and brother, George.   Family and friends may visit at the  Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon  Chapel, 440 S. Coy Rd.  on Monday, May 1, 2006 from 4 until 9 pm and Tuesday from 2 until 9 pm.  Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 am.  Interment will follow in North Oregon Cemetery.  The family suggests memorial contributions to the Ted Federici Scholarship Fund at Clay H.S., the Alzheimer's Association, or First St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
