Theodore (Ted) John Kasza, age 92, passed away Sunday, August 14th 2016 while in Hospice care. Ted was a lifetime resident of Toledo, and had recently been living in Oregon, Ohio with his family. Ted was born February 4, 1924 at home to John and Boleslawa Kasza. Ted was raised in Toledo, on Buckingham Street, with sister, Jennie and brothers Daniel and Paul. He went to school at St. Stanislaus and later MacComber High. He enlisted in the Navy during WWII and served proudly with the Construction Battalion / Sea Bees during the Guadalcanal Campaign. He later served with the Air National Guard at the 180th Fighter Wing. Ted worked as a welder for several companies, including National Supply, Surface Combustion, and General Motors Powertrain and retired from GM in 1989. In his spare time, Ted enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and the occasional practical joke. Ted lived in South Toledo most of his life.
Ted married Phyllis Koperski on October 12th 1946; they remained married until her passing in September of 2007. They had 3 children Karen (John) McKenzie, Patricia (Edward) Rogers, and Nancy (John) Connell. Ted enjoyed the company of his 5 grandchildren, Fran McKenzie, Jack (Kerri) McKenzie, Christine (Dayle) Gatter, Peter Connell, and Laura (Vansasha) Rogers-Gabriel. He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, John McKenzie; 1 sister and 2 brothers.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 17, at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home; Oregon Chapel, 440 S Coy Rd. Prayers will begin in the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. on Thursday, August 18, 2016 and proceed to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 628 Locust St., Toledo, Ohio for Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery 5725 Hill Ave., Toledo, Ohio 43615. Memorials may be sent to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo or St. Joseph Catholic Church.
