Thomas E. Berger, 77, of Oregon , Ohio , passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2009 in his home. Tom was born in Toledo on December 9, 1931 to Clifford and Hazel (Beachner) Berger. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Berger was employed as an assistant safety director at Interlake Steel for 15 years before retiring in 1982. He had also been employed at Libbey Owens Ford and for the State of Ohio . He was a member of First St. Mark's Lutheran Church , Paragon Masonic Lodge, Vistula Council, Port Lawrence Chapter, Hi Twelve, Eutah Commandry and Alcoholics Anonymous. Tom also served on the Oregon Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years.
Surviving are his son, Kenneth (Theresa); daughters, Kathleen (Doug) Schnee, Sheryl Berger, Linda (Fenno) VanDerVeen and Laura (Rob) Smith; sister, Wilma Teems; 22 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita; grandson, William Schnee; brothers, Clifford, Paul and Charles Berger; sister, Henrietta Donaldson.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 11:00 am in the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, where visitation will be Wednesday from 2 to 9 pm. Paragon Lodge services will be held at 7:00 pm followed by Oregon VFD services at 7:30. Interment will be in Allen Township Cemetery in Williston , Ohio . The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Heart Association, Shrine Children's Hospitals or Muscular Dystrophy.
