Thomas Donald Garvin Sr., 85, of Toledo, Ohio passed away Wednesday November 5, 2014 at home, with his family. He was born on April 16, 1929 to Lester and Evelyn (Donaldson) Garvin. He attended Oakdale Grade School and graduated from Waite High School in 1947. After serving his country during the Korean War, in the United States Air Force, he began a civil career that ultimately led him to Owens Corning. There he helped usher in the new computer technology that revolutionized the company.
As like many of his generation, he had a fond love of traveling by car. From the cross country trips to Texas and Georgia while on military leave to visit his new bride, Rose, and family, to the vacations and visits to family and friends, he loved to drive. As a matter of fact, his handle during the heyday of the car CB Fad was '˜little helper.'™ This surely fit his personality as he was always offering his time and talents to others.
After retirement, he worked as a grounds keeper at the Tanglewood Golf Course where he could enjoy one of his favorite hobbies. He also enjoyed playing cards, especially Euchre, Poker, Double Pinochle and Cribbage. He really shined when working with wood in his workshop/garage. There he created some fine pieces of furniture, especially several gun cabinets for his sons. He had a great love of small game hunting and he taught his children the lore of the woods. Of note are his crafted bird houses he fashioned into a village of '˜Moonville.'™ Perhaps it was destiny that he passed away on the eve of a full moon.
Surviving are his sons, Thomas (Dana) Garvin, Joseph Garvin and Jaymes Garvin; daughter, Kathleen (Michael Kendrick) Ginter; granddaughters Melissa (Will) Carter and Rachael Garvin; grandson, Richard Ginter; great granddaughter, Ada Rosemary Carter; and nephew, Thomas (Kathy) Martin. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and sister, Audrey Martin.

Coy Rd. on Sunday, November 9, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Visitation will also be held on Monday, November 10 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the prayer service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Portage Cemetery.
