After a long, hard battle with cancer, Tom passed away at Hospice of Northwest Ohio Thursday, October 8, 2015, with his family at his side. Tom was born December 12, 1942 in Clay Center, Ohio to Elizabeth S. (Bringe) and Willard L. Witt. Tom was baptized and confirmed at Zion Methodist Church in Elliston, Ohio. On May 4, 1963, Tom and Donna were married at Zion, and remained lifelong members. Tom graduated from Genoa High School, attended Bowling Green State University, worked for Johnson Controls, H. W. Bergman Company, American Ship / Merce Industries, and spent the last 17 years at H. Hansen Industries, as sales manager, where he was loyal to his work. Tom enjoyed the land for farming, was an avid hunter, a well – known breeder of labs, and the ultimate fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes as well as the Lake Flyers and Genoa Comets, where his grandsons played. Together with his family, he also enjoyed Lake Erie on "Nanny's Cruise".
Tom
belonged to the Boiler Makers Association, Buckeye Coonhunters Club, Ottawa County Conservation Club, Buckeye Sheriff Association, Pheasants Forever; and athletic booster member of Ohio State, Lake Flyers, and Genoa Comets. His most cherished times were those spent watching the sporting events of his grandchildren. Tom's way of life was always putting family first.
He was truly a sharing, compassionate, and protective Dad to his sons; James (Diane), Todd (Karen) and Brad (Connie). Most of all, he took pride in his precious grandchildren, Casey, Cody, Aaron, Marin, Madden, Kenna, Sam, and Seth; along with his wife Donna; brother, Jere (Kathy) Witt ; and sister, Cheryl (Royce) Buehler; along with many special nieces, nephews, loving family members and a host of friends. Tom was preceded in death by his parents along with his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Donald and Ellen Epling.
Friends may call at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Millbury Chapel, 1111 Woodville Road (east of I-280) on Saturday, October 10, 2015 and Sunday, October 11, 2015 from 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, October 12, 2015 at 11:00 am in St. John's United Church of Christ, 1213 Washington Street, Genoa, where the family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Clay Township Cemetery.
