Veneta M. Oberhaus, 91, of Genoa, Ohio, and formerly of Martin, Ohio, passed away peacefully Monday, February 8, 2016. Veneta was born on December 22, 1924 in Woodville, Ohio to Harold and Elsie (Rife) Emch. She was a 1942 graduate of Woodvile High School and a 1943 graduate of Davis Business College. She worked as a housekeeper and later with Dickey Manufacturing Company. On October 20, 1951, she married Orlen Oberhaus and he preceded her in death on their 57th wedding anniversary in 2008. Veneta later worked as a librarian with Oregon City Schools for 26 years, retiring in 1999. Veneta was actively involved in a number of community organizations including: Oregon Home Extension, Election Board Worker, Luther Home of Mercy and Lutheran Home of Toledo Guild & Treasurer, and 4-H Advisor for the Oregon Busy Bees. She was an active member of St. Mark Lutheran Church with Fellowship Forum, Junior Lutherans, and treasurer of Women of the Church. Veneta was an avid gardener and enjoyed sewing and knitting. For many years, Veneta knitted hats and mittens for the holiday mitten trees at St. Mark and St. Peter Lutheran Churches. Veneta is survived by her children, Lyle (Paulette) Oberhaus, Larry (Patti) Oberhaus and Rita (Neal) Carter; grandchildren, Heidi Oberhaus and Katie (Eric) Suder; and great-grandson, Hudson Suder; along with many nieces, nephews, loving family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Orlen; brother, Elmer Emch; and sister, Lynda Lemke. Friends may call the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Millbury Chapel, 1111 Woodville Road (east of I-280) on Friday, February 12, 2016 from 2:00 pm – 9:00 pm. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 12:00 pm in St. Mark Lutheran Church, 611 Woodville Road, Toledo, where the family will greet friends beginning at 10:30 am.
