Obituary

Vernon L. Meinke, 84, of Curtice, Ohio passed away on July 16, 2003 in Bay Park Community Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 13, 1919 in Oak Harbor to Clarence and Mildred (Floro) Meinke. Vernon and his wife, Hazel, were married on September 26, 1940. Vernon's very first job was with Little Portage Fur Farm and Gun Club, Port Clinton, OH where he was the manager for 12 years. He was then employed by LOF for 24 years and later joined Meinke Marina and worked for 20 years. Vernon also was a part-time commercial fisherman for several years. He was an outdoorsman, trapper, fisherman, hunter and an avid Cleveland Browns and Indians fan, but his first love was his wife, children, and family. Surviving is his loving wife, Hazel; sons, Gary (Laraine) Meinke, Rick (Brenda) Meinke, and Chuck (Becky) Meinke; daughters, Margo (John) Wolff and Marcia (Bob) Amonette; 20 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter, Michelle Meinke; and three brothers and one sister. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 18, 2003 from 2-9 p.m. at the Eggleston-Meinert-Pavley Funeral Home, Coy Road Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road, Oregon. Funeral services will be conducted at St. Peter's Lutheran Church 17877 W. State Rte 579, Martin, Ohio on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Internment will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Vernon's honor can be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church. The family would like to thank the staff of Bay Park Community Hospital CCU for thier special care.
