Vernard L. Donahue, 89, of Toledo, passed away Saturday, December 31st, 2011 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg.
He was born in Tom'™s Creek, Virginia on October 9th, 1922 to Arvil L. and Naomi (Stallard) Donahue. Vern attended Jenkins High School where he played football, known as 'œBullet' by his teammates. He served in the US Army as a Staff Sergeant from 1943 to 1946. On December 30, 1947, he married Betty Hastings. Vern was employed with Jeep for 36 years, retiring in 1987. He enjoyed running, fishing and boating. Vern also enjoyed traveling to visit relatives in Kentucky and Virginia. His true passion was spending time with his grandsons who knew him as 'œPapa.'
Vern is survived by his daughter, Cheri Hatfield and grandsons, Joseph Lee Hatfield and US Army Specialist Daniel Jeffrey Hatfield. He was preceded in death his parents, wife, Betty, and brother, Wilmer Donahue.
Private services will be held at Lake Township Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home has assisted the family with arrangements.
