Virginia 'œGinny' Hughes, 98, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Orchard Villa. She was born on January 1, 1916 in Allen County, Kentucky to William and Eula (Perry) Hughes. Ginny owned and operated the Jenne Wren Beauty Shop for over 55 years. She was active in Euclid United Methodist Church where she served on many committees and later served on the Board of Trustees at Unity United Methodist Church. Ginny was a member of St. Charles Auxiliary, President of St. Charles Junior Guild, and Family Health Center. Ginny was the first woman to become a member of the East Toledo Club. She served on the Board of Director'™s of the River East Economic Revitalization Corporation. Ginny later volunteered at the information desk at St. Charles Hospital and with the Feeding Program at Little Sisters of the Poor.
In 34 years, Ginny never missed a Kentucky Derby and was commissioned a 'œKentucky Colonel' by the Governor of Kentucky in 1972. Ginny loved entertaining and having parties, especially her Christmas party. She decorated her house to the fullest, having family get-togethers for all of the holidays. Ginny was a friend to many and her home was always open to all. She always had the strength to overcome any hardship that came her way calling on her constant faith to comfort her through her ups and downs. Ginny enjoyed a good joke, country music, playing cards and working crossword puzzles. Her true passion was spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her beloved cats.
Surviving are the sons of her dear friends, the late John L. and Jane Trace; John C. Trace, Mark Trace, Fred (Cindy) Trace; grandchildren, Jane (Bradley) Mannon, Virginia Trace, Kaitlyn Trace, Carra Carpenter, Mitchell Mauder and Dylan Mauder; great grandchildren, Trace Mannon and Alex Mannon, Kenzie and Derk Jackson III, Luke, Levi, and Faith Carpenter. Ginny was preceded in death by her parents; son, Matt Trace, and grandson, Corey Carpenter.
Friends may visit at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel 440 S. Coy Rd., Oregon on Friday, May 16, 2014 from 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 12:00 pm in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Lake Township Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
