Virginia Marie Rate, of Genoa, Ohio passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2008, at St. Charles Mercy Hospital. She was born in Toledo, Ohio on March 23, 1929, to Charles and Mildred (Carpenter) Wysong. Virginia, or Giare, her childhood nickname, held various jobs through out her life and she especially loved working with and around food which led her to food related jobs like Walton Bakery, Merryman's Hi Hat, Wysong's Finer Foods, Buddies Catering, Lasalle's Country House, Northwood Inn, Northwood Villa, most of the areas country clubs, Berman's, Holiday Inn French Quarter as a head waitress, Holiday Inn I-75, Anna's, and Miller's Supermarket. Giare especially loved having family dinners and she would fix so many kinds of food, you never left her table hungry. "Giare" will be missed dearly by all of her family and the many friends with whom she shared her life's adventure. While we will take with us the memories of her life, we shall also carry with us the lessons of her strength, determination and pride. Virginia married Gordon M. Rate Sr. on June 14, 1947. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gordon Sr.; stepbrother, Richard "Billy" Beach; daughter, Sandra Miekis, and her companion of 34 years, Richard W. Kalmbach. Giare is survived by her sister, Corrine Graybell; her children, Gordon M. Rate Jr., Wendy (George) Kimble, Charles (Deb) Rate; son-in-law, Kevin Miekis, and her grandchildren, Deanna (Steve) Williams, Jeremy (Leslie) Zenz, Melissa (Jeff Corpening) Zenz, Denise (Jeff) Ling, Dana (Nic) Brentlinger, Leslie, Kelly, Stacey Rate, Sarah and Alex Miekis, Wendy (Daryl) Moore, and Andrew (Laura) Kimble; along with great-grandchildren, Sara and Jared Corpening-Zenz, Zia Ling, Taylor Williams, Peyton Zenz, Sydney, Connor, and Jacob Kimble, Reagan, Lauren, Sierra, and Jackson Moore, and Madison Jones. Visitation will be held at the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Millbury Chapel, 1111 Woodville Road, Millbury, OH on Friday, June 6, 2008, from 2-9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy in Virginia's memory are asked to consider the Allen-Clay Joint Fire District Station 3 or Calvary Lutheran Church Memory Garden.
