Walter E. Berger, 90, of Curtice, Ohio passed away on Monday, July 18, 2011 at Orchard Villa. He was born in Jerusalem Township, Ohio on December 6, 1920 to Stephen and Florence (Magsig) Berger. Walt was a 1938 graduate of Clay High School and was a self-employed farmer his entire life. He was a member of the Board of Directors for the Ottawa County Co-Op elevators, and instrumental in the development of grain elevators for Luckey farmers. Walter was a member of S.C.R.A.P., Inc. Organization, and the National Thrashers Association where he enjoyed running his John Deere antique tractor in their parades and shows. One of his favorite pastimes was attending tractor pulls. Walter was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church Martin, OH where he was involved in the church choir. He also played trombone in a CYO band.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Dorothea and son Walter E. 'œButch' (Barbara) Berger Jr. Walter was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Esther, and brother, Kenneth.
Friends may call at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road on Thursday from 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in St. Peters Lutheran Church 17877 W. State Rte. 579, Martin Ohio on Friday at 10:30 a.m. with interment following in Oakwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Peter'™s Lutheran Church or Odyssey Hospice.
