Walter Wayne Vogel, 84 formerly of Genoa, Ohio, passed away Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Hinkle Hospice House, Lexington, NC. Wayne was born on June 9, 1931 in McCutchenville, Ohio to Earnest and Emma (Ginter) Vogel. At "Scutch" High, Wayne received the FFA State Farmer Degree in 1948 and in 1952 was named National Star Farmer. He was a catcher on the State Champion Baseball team of 1949. In 1952, he married Kathleen (Katie) Hipsher and she survives. In 1955, Wayne was drafted into the Army and served in peacetime in Germany. Wayne was a lifelong farmer and prior to owning and operating the Vogel's IGA Grocery store in Genoa from 1974-1988, he worked for Floom & Fleck; followed by Meadow Gold Dairy in Tiffin. Wayne and Katie also owned and operated the Hour Glass Inn, from 1985-2015 when failing health caused them to close and move to North Carolina with their son where they greatly enjoyed the fellowship of the Trinity Living Center. Also surviving; children, Connie (Jim) Overman, Cindy (Dennis) Hartman, Brad (Diana) Vogel; grandchildren, Jason, Kendra, Chad (Jessica), Andrew (Megan), Bradley Jr. (Jessie), Margaret, four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Delbert, Clarence, Robert and Paul. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2-8 p.m. at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home Millbury Chapel, 1111 Woodville Road, Millbury where funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:30 am. Interment will be Friday at 3:00 pm in Bethel Cemetery, McCutchenville, Ohio. Memorials may be directed to Trinity Living Center, Salisbury, NC or to ACJFD Station 3, Genoa.
