Obituary

Wanda Evon Connally, 88, of Toledo, Ohio passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, January 25, 2026. She was born on April 6, 1937 in Limestone County, Alabama to Jess and Vina (Ivey) Burrough.

Wanda was a woman whose presence filled a room with warmth, laughter, and genuine connection. Outgoing, generous, loving, and endlessly jovial, Wanda had a gift for making people feel welcomed, seen, and valued. Her kindness came easily, her laughter often, and her love knew no bounds.

Wanda found joy in many of life's simple and meaningful pleasures. She had a deep love for poetry and a curious spirit that led her to explore genealogy, always eager to learn more about the stories that shaped her family. Some of her happiest moments were spent traveling, playing games, and most especially, making memories with her beloved grandchildren. Wanda was also a natural hostess. Her gatherings were full of conversation, laughter, and the unmistakable feeling of togetherness she so effortlessly created.

Community played an important role in Wanda's life. She was a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star, volunteered with Oregon schools, and cherished her time with her Bunco group. These connections were a reflection of her outgoing nature and her sincere love for people.

Those who knew Wanda often associate her with the beautiful things she surrounded herself with. She was a devoted collector of angels, artwork, and cherished photographs of family and friends, tangible reminders of the people and memories she held close to her heart.

Wanda's life was defined by resilience, strength, and an unwavering work ethic. She embodied perseverance and showed by example what it meant to work hard, love deeply, and keep moving forward through life's challenges.

Her story is marked by meaningful milestones. Wanda took great pride in opening her own retail stores, a testament to her determination and entrepreneurial spirit. She celebrated every holiday with enthusiasm and intention, making each one special for those she loved. She shared 65 years of marriage, a partnership built on devotion and commitment, and fulfilled her dream by building her perfect home, a place where countless memories were made.

Wanda leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, and strength. She will be remembered not only for what she accomplished, but for how she made people feel-welcomed, supported, and deeply loved. Her spirit lives on in the family she cherished, the friendships she nurtured, and the many lives she touched.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Stacey McLaughlin, Pamela Calevro, Hugh Connally Jr; grandchildren, Cody, Jeremiah, Jess, Tucker, Christy; great - great great grandchildren; and sister, Elaine Reecer. Wanda is also survived by her lifelong best friend, Jean Hightower, whose friendship began at age 16 and endured for a lifetime. Their bond was so deep that their families became one. The family would like to extend special recognition and heartfelt thanks to the Procaccini family for their dear friendship, unwavering support, compassion, and presence in Wanda's life & family.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, her cherished husband Hugh and grandson Vincent "Richie" Connally.
