William J. Arter, 85, of Toledo, OH passed away October 16, 2003 in St. Charles Mercy Hospital. He was born on June 13, 1918 to William and Norma (Kordt) Arter in Toledo, OH. William was a 1936 graduate of Waite High School and served in the US Navy as a radio technician on the USS Omaha during World War II. He was employed by Fred Christen & Sons as a sheet metal worker for 35 years, retiring in 1983. William was a member of Unity United Methodist Church, the Sheet Metal Workers Local #33, Knights of Pythias-Walbridge Lodge and the VFW in Northwood. He enjoyed his summers at Devil's Lake for over 50 years.
Surviving are is wife of 56 years, Dorothy J.; daughter, Lee M. Hill-Moebius; grandchildren, Howard (Christina) Hill and Valerie Moebius; step-grandchildren, Jennifer (Joe) Rigali and Brent (Michelle) Moebius; great-grandchildren, Peytin and Taylor Hill; step-great-grandchildren, Ryan and Kylee Moebius and Marisa and Bobby Rigali; sister, Mary A. Gillespie; nieces, Christine Lewis, Norma Allen, Judy Fletcher, Cathy Nordstrom and nephew, Charles Fletcher. William was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Kathleen Fletcher; sons-in-law, Howard Hill and Russ Moebius.
Family and friends may visit at the Eggleston-Meinert-Pavley Funeral Home, Coy Road Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road, Oregon, OH on Friday from 2-9 p.m. where funeral services will be conducted on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Park. Contributions in William's memory can be made to Unity United Methodist or Central Catholic High School
