Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William D. Bartley, 87, on November 2, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born in Toledo, Ohio, on December 17, 1937, to William and Helen (Lajti) Schupp. He graduated from Waite High School in 1956. Bill married Carolyn (Ankney) in 1960, who preceded his death in 2016. Bill served honorably in the United States Coast Guard from 1958 to 1966 as a Port Security Man Third Class. Bill went on to be employed at Buckeye Brewery, spent 22 years as a machinist set up and operator at Dana Corporation. Bill was then employed by Oregon City School systems and concluded his career in 2000 from the City of Oregon as a Water Treatment and Waste Water Treatment Operator. He served on the Jerusalem Township Volunteer Fire Department for 15 years where in 1978 he earned Fireman of the Year honors. He was also active in the Cooley Canal Yacht Club. Bill enjoyed camping, travel, target shooting, hunting, fishing, and excelled at being able to fix almost anything.

Bill is survived by sons, Dale ((Tammy) Leesburg, VA.), William ((Crystal) Republic, OH.), James ((Jennifer) Curtice, OH.); daughter-in-law, Colleen (Fairfield, TX); grandchildren, Brittany, Lauren, Jacob, Daniel, Amanda; great-grandchildren, Brayden, Kieran, Faith, Liam, Cyle, Luke, Colt, Paisley, Aubrey, Lawrence, Connor, and Henry.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Helen; loving wife, Carolyn; son, Roland; grandsons, Brandon, Brett, and his faithful canine companion, Missi.

Friends my visit at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Rd. on Sunday, November 9 from 12 noon until 7:00 pm with a Fireman's service at 5:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, at Our lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, 1105 N. Elliston Rd., Bono, Ohio where the family will greet friends beginning at 10:00 am. Interment will follow in Williston Cemetery. Those wishing an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Jerusalem Township Volunteer Fire Department or Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church.
