Obituary

William Henry Fischhaber passed away in his home peacefully at the age of 93 on Easter Sunday, April 1, 2018. Bill was born in Detroit on June 21, 1924. His parents Adam and Edith Fischhaber raised 6 children. Bill attended Denby HS in Detroit. After serving in WWII, 10th Mountain Division, he returned home from Italy and found a job in Toledo at the Lutheran Orphanage and met Magdalene (Pinky) Hecklinger. They moved back to Detroit where Bill was a Detroit police officer for 8 years and then moved back to Oregon. Bill returned to school to get his Masters of Education and taught special education at the Clay High School in Oregon for 25 years. He also worked at LaSalles/Macy's/Elder Beerman for years in the mens clothing department which he enjoyed. Bill and Pinky loved their German heritage and traveled to Europe many times visiting dear friends in Switzerland and Germany. Bill was so involved in the community with Oregonians, Historical Society, volunteered at St. Charles Hospital for 25 years, swimming at the YMCA, a member of the GBU Benevolent Society and the Toledo Men's Swiss Society. Bill recently enjoyed having lunch with friends at the Oregon Senior Center and hosting card parties with dear friends. Bill was a dedicated member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church for over 55 years. Bill and Pinky were married 62 years before she passed in 2010. Surviving are Bill's two children, Albert (Sherri) and Brenda (Rich); grandchildren, Richie (April), Shannon (Craig), Kristen (Kevin), Callie; great-grandchildren, Isaac, Isabella, Leah, Max, Reagan, Henry and Sidney; sisters-in law, Martha Hecklinger, Margie Bollinger, Carol Fischhaber. We will miss him dearly. Friends may visit at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Rd., on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will take place on Thursday at First St. John Lutheran Church, 2741 Seaman St., Toledo beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in First St. John Cemetery. Those wishing to make a memorial contribution in William's name are asked to consider St. Paul's Lutheran Church or the Oregon Jerusalem Historical Society.
