William P. "Catfish" Fouke, 77, of Curtice, Ohio, passed away on Friday, February 12, 2010 in Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg with his family around him. He was born in Genoa, Ohio on January 23, 1933 to James (Buster) and Lucille (Nissen) Fouke. Bill graduated from Clay High School in 1951 and played football for Clay during his high school years and always talked about playing during the first year of the Ted Federici Era. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and worked for Toledo Edison as a lineman for 43 years retiring in 1993. Bill owned and operated Bill's Lakemont Boat Rental (red boats) as well as Bill's Lake Erie Bait along with his family for many years. He was very proud of being a commercial fisherman for over 30 years. He can be remembered for his lawsuit against the Ohio Department of Natural Resources back in 1971 for the embargo of their white bass catches and was always vocal about the state continuously trying to eliminate the commercial fisherman jobs in Ohio that continues today. Bill was an avid hunter and fisherman and all family and friends knew that he would be gone hunting from October through January in Ohio, Michigan, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Colorado and Canada. He held memberships in Ducks Unlimited, Whitetails Unlimited, Pheasants Forever as well as National Rifle Association. For the last 15 years Bill and Lorraine enjoyed their flea markets all over northwest Ohio and southern Michigan.
Surviving are his wife of 16 years, Lorraine; children, Patricia (Donald) Grady, William (Sharon), Nancee Stanton, Lynne (Daniel (Butch)) Downes, Karen (Brian) Wilhelm and Loranal (Daniel) Watkins; brothers, James (Marilyn) Fouke, Richard Farris and Charles Farris. 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father Albert Farris and first wife, Alice (nee Wrzesinski) in 1975.
