William Giles, 89, of Toledo, Ohio passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at Mercy St. Charles Hospital. Bill was born in Toledo, Ohio on September 1, 1925 to William and Iva (Blanchard) Giles. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. On August 15, 1947, he married Evelyn Lang. For 37 years, Bill worked at Gulf Oil Refinery and retired in 1981. Evelyn and Bill were avid travelers and visited 48 of the 50 states, enjoyed international destinations, and spent 30 winters in Florida.
Surviving are his daughters, Nancy (Bill) Wilson, Cathy (Rick) Hecklinger and Peggy (Louie) Soltis; 8 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evelyn; brother, Robert Giles; and sisters, Edith Hurrelbrink and Virginia Luce.
Friends may call at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road on Saturday, March 14, 2015 from 11:00 am until time of memorial service at 1:00 pm. Private interment will take place at St. Johns Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the Lutheran Home at Toledo, Hospice of Northwest Ohio, or St. Johns Cemetery Fund. Bill's daughters wish to thank the nurses of Mercy St. Charles Hospital for the exceptional care given to their father.
