William M. Pasztor Jr., 62 of Oregon, Ohio passed away February 26, 2010 at Karmanos Cancer Center in Detroit, Michigan after a courageous fight with Myelofibrosis. He was born on April 10, 1947 to William and Margaret (Marusz) Pasztor. He graduated from Cardinal Stritch in 1965 and received both his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from the University of Toledo.
Bill was one of a kind. He was a role model to his daughters and all who knew him.
Bill was dedicated to his family, friends and to the Oregon City Schools. He taught physical education at Wynn and Starr Elementary Schools and later was the Adaptive Physical Education Instructor for the school system, retiring after thirty-five years of service. Upon retirement, Bill became director of the Oregon Eagle Learning Center (ELC) in the fall of 2006. Despite his illness, Bill continued as director. He also was an Adjunct Professor at the University of Toledo. He was an active union leader serving as AFLCIO representative, Vice President from 1978 to 1992 and as President from 1992 to 2006 for the Oregon City Federation of Teachers. He was also very active with the Ohio Federation of Teachers, serving on many state committees and as co-chairman of the ULI committee.
Bill was inducted into the Birmingham Hall of Fame in 1988 and has served as a trustee and officer. As a member on the Board of Trustees for the East Center for Community Mental Health he served as Vice President and President. He also served as a member of the Lucas County Mental Health Board.
Bill loved sports of all kinds and enjoyed coaching his daughters' St. Stephen'™s volleyball and basketball teams. He also coached track at Eisenhower Middle School. He loved playing racquetball and working at the Aquarius Athletic Club. He enjoyed bowling, playing softball and soccer with his Monoky's buddies. He also enjoyed fishing in Canada with his cousins and friends.
Bill is survived by his wife, Jane; daughters, Melissa Pasztor (Brian Mummert), Melinda Kennedy (Keith); grandchildren, Logan and Morgan Kennedy; brother, Nick Pasztor (Denise); four nieces, two nephews, and eight godchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary Margaret Pasztor.
Family and friends may visit at the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road, on Wednesday and Thursday from 2 '" 9 pm. The Divine Liturgy of Christian Burial services will be conducted on Friday at 10 am in St. Ignatius Church. Interment will take place in St. Ignatius Cemetery. He will be loved and missed by his family and friends. Donations can be made to the William Michael Pasztor Scholarship Fund to be given to a Cardinal Stritch, Clay High School or ELC student.
