William H. Schafer, 101, formerly of Toledo, Ohio, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2014 in Oxford, North Carolina. William was born on November 29, 1912. The youngest and last surviving child of the three children of Albert and Mary Schafer of Toledo, Ohio. Bill married Alice L. Frazier in 1934. They had an only son, Harold I. Schafer (Donna) of Oxford, North Carolina. Mr. Schafer leaves four grandchildren; Michelle (Ronald) Carr of Blackstock, South Carolina, Julie A. Schafer of Fairlawn, Ohio, Michael (Holly) Schafer of Fairlawn, Ohio and Thomas A. Schafer of Uniontown, Ohio, all children of Joyce (Heider) Schafer; and two step-grandchildren, Natalie Krizo of Middlebury, Vermont, and Brent (Sarah) Krizo of Belgrade, Maine. Bill leaves 18 great-grandchildren, Heather (Michael) Marino, Melissa (Gregg) White, Timothy (Jessica) Carr, Morgan (Derrick) McKee, Benjamin O. Schafer, Jonah A. Schafer, Maria T. Schafer, William E. Schafer, Cameron M. Schafer, Katherine C. Schafer, Samantha L. Schafer, Sophia M. Schafer, Mac M. Schafer, Clare E. Schafer, Thomas A. Schafer, Jr. ('œT.J.'), Michael W. Schafer, Anna L. Schafer, Jeffrey C. Schafer, 4 step-great grandchildren, Oni Krizo, Evan Krizo, Max Krizo and Sam Krizo. He also leaves 3 great-great grandchildren, Carson Marino, Daniel Marino and Ariana L. Carr. Bill worked at Libby Owens Ford for 43 years, retiring in 1975. After retiring, he and Alice delivered Mobile Meals for 11 years. He was a sixty-year member of Lotus (Paragon) Masonic Lodge, and in later years of Hi-12. Bill was a lifelong member of Unity (Oakdale) United Methodist Church, where he served in many capacities. He most of all enjoyed his years in the Choir. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Memorials may be directed to Unity United Methodist Church.
