William J. Schnee Jr., 86, of Oregon, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo, surrounded by his loving family.
Bill was born in Jerusalem Township on May 15, 1925 to William J. and Margaret (Drewyor) Schnee Sr. He was a 1943 graduate of Clay High School. Following graduation, Bill enlisted in the US Army Air Corps. He served his country proudly during WW II, where he received a Purple Heart. On January 9, 1946, he married Beverly 'œBecky' Susor and she preceded him in death January 6th, 1975. On March 6, 1977, he married Ree Jean Phillips, and she preceded him in death April 11, 2010. Bill was employed for over 40 years with Pure Oil, SOHIO, and BP Refineries where he retired as maintenance supervisor in 1992. His memberships included Port Lawrence Masonic Lodge, Zenobia Shrine Drum and Bugle Corps, VFW Post 9816 and Dunberger American Legion Post. Bill served as an Oregon volunteer fireman for many years. In his spare time, he enjoyed building and flying remote controlled airplanes. Bill was proud of his military service and was willing to share his story whenever he could. He was proud to be the last surviving member of his B-17 Crew. In 2011, Bill had the opportunity to fly on Honor Flight to see the WW II Memorial in Washington DC.
Bill is survived by his children; Sue Erdmann, Doug (Kathy) Schnee, Shirley (Tom Tavino) Crabtree, Connie (Bill) Sager, and Dan (Bonnie) Phillips; 17 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; brothers, Florian 'œBo' (Betty) Schnee and Leo Schnee; sisters, Emma (Bill) Harmer, and Agnes 'œAggie' Dahar. He was preceded in death by his parents, wives Becky and Jean; grandson, Billy Schnee; son-in-law, Karl Erdmann; brothers, Edward Schnee and Leroy 'œShadow' Nickels; and sister, Mary Margaret Donaldson.
Visitation will be held at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road on Saturday, March 10, 2012 from 4-8 pm where a Zenobia Shrine service will be held at 7:00 pm; and Sunday, March 11, 2012 from 1:00-8:00 pm, where an Oregon Fire Department service will be held at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be conducted 10:00 am Monday in the funeral home with interment following at Restlawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be directed to Honor Flight of Northwest Ohio or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
